Why They Call Toucans Twitchy...

This is my Swainson Toucan, Fiji, in her outdoor aviary. You can see just from her mannerisms how different they move compared to parrots and why they often get named "twitchy".

However, they are beautiful and have the potential to be amazing pets and companions. The above video shows Dave getting Fiji out of her aviary outside and bringing her into our Florida room indoors. It also goes into showing her drinking water and just how messy of a task that can be!

Article by Jamieleigh Womach. She has been working with parrots and toucans since the age of 17. She isn’t homeless but is home less than she prefers to be. She travels the world with her husband, daughter, and a flockful of parrots whom she shares the stage with.

Toucans are 10x messier than macaws, hands down.
